We drove the Palisade. Beautiful suv. It’s more than we need. We did get a 2020 Santa Fe SEL 2.0t. We absolutely love it. White with the espresso grey interior. Amazing interior. It all feels more up scale then you’d think a Hyundai to be. The 2.0t motor is great and the best choice. Test drive a 2.0t Santa Fe it’s worth a look. We also just got the new 2020 Hyundai Sonata limited. Great car. Love all the tech. Hyundai is changing the game.

What most people don't know (or have forgotten) is that Honda and Toyota introduced junk cars into the US in the 70's, just as Hyundai and Kia did when they entered the US market. Today, Honda and Toyota are living on reputations they earned the hard way . . . from junk to quality vehicles. Today, Hyundai and Kia are putting value filled, attractive and quality built vehicles on the ground, and since I own both Kia (since 2015, a Sorento) and Hundai (since 2003, four Sonatas and one Santa Fe), I can, without reservation, say that they are two of the best brands I have ever owned.

2020 Subaru Ascent limited is dope!
    1. Acceleration is quick if you know how to use it. Use the paddle shifter to down shift and it takes off.
    2. The top screen is not necessary but it does gives you a quick glance of other items in the infotainment. Especially when you have someone messing with the infotainment.
    3. Beeping alerts. You can disable them! Not a valid complaint.
    4) Storage. Are you moving in or driving? The center console is as large as you can gets. Door pockets give you extra storage. Anyone talk about the change tray? The glove box is small so I’ll give you that.
    5) Third row seating. Why would you sit back there it’s meant for children?!
    6) Plenty of cargo space without the third row. Use a roof rack if you need more. We are four and we learned that we could cut down how much we bring on road trips.
    7) Other features. Auto-dim mirrors? Second row window shade. Extra vents in the third row? The kids love their own AC. Less complaining.
The Subaru Ascent is easy to drive surprisingly great around corners for its size. I think you should do a test drive with an actual family on all these cars.

Front console was so ergonomic. No million buttons like a spaceship, minimalist, perfectly placed, very responsive. Steering range shocked me, cause me driving mustang, was able to turn in some sharp angle parking spots. Despite the size I felt in control, not like on Escalade, when I feel like on a cruise ship. One thing i notice on all of these reviews is that the reviewers always tout the cost of the Kia as being so much less than the competition. That sounds great! When you "build" a vehicle on their respective websites this may be true. Once you walk into a dealership, you'll find that they are marking these things up 5-10k above MSRP right off the bat. The supply is very limited and the demand, probably fueled by so many positive online reviews, is extremely high. I've driven and looked at the new highlander, telluride, ascent, explorer, and pilot. The Kia ends up being the most expensive once you "negotiate" with the dealerships. Your experience may be different, but this is what I experienced in socal.

Trying not to sound like a Honda fanboy, but all I heard about the Honda was that they put it at last rank. It was average across the board and had an all black interior, as if that puts it below all the negatives brought on by the Chevy and as if you can't get a different a different color/trim. That sounded like "let's just put Honda at the bottom because we can." If it's basically "middle of the road," then it should be in the middle group. Having said that I do NOT like the new Pilots compared to my '03. They've taken away a lot of what makes that car appealing, except improved on the outside styling. I still have my '03 and it's got around 293k miles on it. Space has never been an issue, except in the 3rd row seating, but cargo was unbeaten for the longest time. She loved it. We looked at the new Traverse and it just didn't stack up at all against the vehicle we ended up buying: The Palisade Calligraphy. Short of the Kia, I don't think there is anything close. It is a gorgeous vehicle, rides well and has a ton of tech. The Kia Telluride SX is almost impossible to get right now. The wait list to spec one out is about 6 months right now. Plus most dealers in the North East are charging $5,000 to $20,000 over sticker price for the Telluride SXP. You can’t get any discount at all from any dealers across the country for the upper trim levels of the Telluride.

Been shopping this segment really seriously and have looked at or driven almost all of these excluding the explorer. Palisade is the nicest of the group hands down (then the Kia Telluride). The Subaru, Honda, VW, and Chevy all give a feeling of being in a top trim Impreza, Civic, Jetta, or Cruze and to be honest they're all getting a bit dated feeling inside. The Palisade Limited comes really close to Mercedes or BMW levels or refinement and in some ways surpasses them.
The biggest omission here in my opinion is that "Midsize" 3-row segment has really grown into another size all together and these are really more of large SUV's and the Acadia, Sorrento, or Tiguan are more midsize.

I've recently test driven a few of these (Atlas, Palisade, Ascent) and a Durango and I think I'm buying the one you didn't like - the Ascent!
I want to be able to tow a small travel trailer - both the Kia and Hyundai's tow packages only come with 4 pin adapters and no brake controller - meaning an extra headache if I wanted to tow anything. The Ascent is pre-wired and read to go - plug and play brake controller. The Durango just felt ... old, with a cramped interior.
I also want to own it for a decade or more - the VW isn't likely to last that long. Only time will tell if Kia and Hyundai will. Subaru is likely going to be fine.

A year ago I would have agreed with Dustin. I had a 2017 Kia Forte with Forward Collision Avoidance. This year a large van ran a red light when my daughter was driving through an intersection. There was not only no chance for her to avoid the accident, human reflexes physically could not have done anything before the crash. The auto break system engaged and while it did NOT prevent the crash it bled off a lot of kinetic energy before the impact. The end result was a totaled kia and my daughter walked away from the car without so much as a scratch. The impact without the breaking system would have been 2 vehicles at 90 degrees both at > 45 MPH, nearly head on. This is why I now have a 2020 Kia in my driveway with Forward Collision Avoidance enabled. I don't care how good a driver I am, if an active collision avoidance system can increase my chances of surviving a collision it's a win in my book.

What I think you are overlooking is the ACTUAL price you can get these vehicles at. An explorer can be found for 8-10k below msrp. The Kia and Hyundai are going for msrp. I can’t afford $45+k. $36 is about my max. For that I can get an explorer xlt, convenience package, 20” rims, tow package with active X material. Oh, and the digital gauges. You can’t touch that with your top 3 picks. I am picking the explorer because of this as it actually carries the most value for the money.

Gary Bucci I bought an Atlas SE w/tech and it’s a way better deal then the Kia SX especially because you have to pay premium costs to own the top two trims of the Kia here in California. As a former kia owner I can say that in 5 years the value will drop and the reason will always be, “ because it’s a Kia”.

And I don't regret it for one second! I feel Hyundai (and Kia) are seriously under charging for these vehicles. Talk about VALUE! You get so much for your hard earned money! Styling, interior space, interior design, quality cabin materials, infotainment (love wireless Apple Car Play), cabin design, tech, accessories, engines, suspension, lighting, safety features....it's all tied in together in a near perfect package! If you are shopping for a 3 row/mid-sized SUV, you must include Palisade and Telluride on your short list. See for yourself. You won't regret it.

Speaking of the emergency Braking on the Honda, I can say I have the Honda CRV with the same system and the yellow light often goes off when the car in front turns off - but the actual brake doesn’t. The only time it has ever gone off is when going over a sharp dip in the road... Also complaining about the black interior overlooks that many vehicles have black, and the Pilot is also available in gray and beige. I don’t like black interiors myself.

The latest Traverse keeps the similar size to the last Acadias, but in 2017, the new Acadia has become more of a slightly larger Terrain. That said, the new Acadia would have come in near tops in fuel economy. I rented one and it was averaging over 25 mpg in mixed driving through NJ, PA, NY, MD.

As an American I want to support American car company but I learned that the CEO's are undercutting the auto works by using 80% of parts made in Asia and using cheaper parts the doesn't last. They only care about the bottom line resulting in stock prices so they get a nice bonus on the back of American who support them.

Really interesting review. I'm surprised the brand new explorer did so poorly. One glaring challenge that will be interesting to see unfold is the huge disadvantage Ford and GM have in the marketplace due to the uaw. These vehicles are way overpriced. Granted there will be discounts. But if the domestics continue to be saddled with lavish pension obligations, they won't survive. For the highest prices they also have the shortest warranties. Even if the Korean cars have some repair issues, the warranty covers it. They are very good about honoring the warranty coverage in my experience.

asertiv1 Hyundai’s (who owns Kia) auto union is also very notorious in Korea and they strike every year demanding massive pay increase even in off years and already forced the company to ensure certain % of new employees to be from families of the current union members. Luckily, Telluride is made in Hyundai/Kia’s US factory, but I believe Palisade has strictly been produced in Ulsan, Korea so far.

  • @3sons66
    @3sons66 4 года назад

We own a 2020 Palisade and we love it. Other than the early production propeller shaft replacement, this thing is rock solid and rides like a vehicle costing much more. We compared to the new Ford Explorer, but we couldn't get all the features we wanted (ventilated rear capt. seats) and the Explorer out the door was going to be over $60K. We paid $46.5K out the door with the tow package for the Palisade and after 14,000K miles of 1st year driving, we still love it and have had no other issues. I was concerned about depreciation, but just doing a quick KBB estimate comparing both cars, the Palisade Limited vs. Explorer Platinum I would have taken over a $17K depreciation hit vs. a $8K hit on our Palisade this first year. I'm glad I went with the Palisade.
